Hancock

Well if you don’t know the plot already, where the hell have you been! For those of you who have been on Mars, i’ll give you the brief run down. John Hancock ( Will Smith) is an alcoholic, bad tempered and reluctant Super-Hero in Los Angeles. He does, however, manage to save lives, but in his own unique way manages to also cause millions of dollars worth of damage. The public are fed up with Hancock and want him taken away or put in prison. One day Hancock saves the life of a public relations executive Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) from being hit by a freight train. In return Embrey makes it his mission to change the Super-Hero’s image and get the public onto Hancock’s side.

I loved this movie and thought it was near perfect. This movie gives the world a fresh new take on Super-Hero movies, not mocking, but just totally innovative. The acting was top notch, some people don’t like Will Smith, however I think he has phenomenal acting talent, which he proves in this movie. Jason Bateman (the guy from Juno) along with Charlize Theron (playing Ray Embrey’s wife) give excellent performances. The script was great and I also liked the twist in the movie which I did not see coming at all. Watching this you really felt as if this would be what it would be like if there were really Super-Hero’s in our world. The movie, it has to be said, was also hilarious and comically genius. If you don’t see this movie you better have a damn good reason.

Review: The Incredible Hulk

2 07 2008

The Incredible Hulk‘The Incredible Hulk’ is the story of Dr Bruce Banner (Edward Norton), who seeks a cure to his unique condition, which causes him, due to high blood pressure, to turn into The Hulk. Banner pursues an antidote for his condition, whilst the military pursue him, believing that they can use his awesome power to their advantage. Banner must return to civilization if he is to have a chance of being cured, meaning he puts himself at great risk of being captured by the military.

I enjoyed this movie a lot, the fighting scenes were “incredible”, with the main Hulkbattle at the end putting the icing on the cake. The special effects in this movie were also excellent with the Hulk looking fantastic especially in the transitions between human and Hulk. The acting was also sound with the lead roles doing solid work; I also thought Tim Blake Neslson’s performance as Samuel Sterns/Mr. Blue was noteworthy. I thought the script was made all it could be by the cast, directors, special effects etc. and that was the only thing that stopped this movie getting 5 stars, it isn’t a terrible script but it certainly isn’t a 5 star script.

Review: Kung Fu Panda

29 06 2008

kung fu pandaPo (Jack Black) is an overweight and lazy Panda who is also the biggest Kung Fu fan around. Unfortunately for him he has to work at his family’s noodle shop instead of being a Kung Fu master. Unexpectedly, one day his is chosen to fulfil an ancient prophecy and he joins the world of Kung Fu, training alongside his idols The Furious Five. News soon arrives that the evil snow leopard, Tai Lung, has escaped from prison and Po must master Kung Fu in no time if he is to defend everyone from Tai Lung.

I thought this movie was amazing and will certainly be one of the best animated movies this year. The character Po fits Jack Black perfectly and Black gives an outstanding performance making every joke hilarious. Not only is the voice acting in this movie superb but the choreography is sublime, with every action scene bringing you to the edge of your seat. There’s one scene where Po fights his master, Shifu, for a dumpling and this has got to be one of my favourite fight scenes of all time, it’s gripping and side splitting at the same time! This is a must see movie for everyone, not just kids, you will not be let down by this movie.

Fast and Furious 4

24 06 2008

The fourth installment of the series will bring back the original stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. So far the series has been very successful having made Universal Studios $600 million and is also one of their best selling DVD titles. It hits cinemas on 5th June 2009 and I’m looking forward to it.

Here are some newly released photos of the movie:

Ben Campbell (Jim Sturgess) is a higly intelligent student at M.I.T, a college in Boston. His goal is to get a scolarship at Harvard School of Medicine, he ticks all the boxes, however they want someone who “dazzles” and “jumps off the page” Ben doesn’t, he’s too ordinary. Unfortunatley this means without the scolarship he’s going to need $300,000 to pay for Harvard. His talent in mathematics causes him to be spotted by Professor Micky Rosa (Kevin Spacey) who wants Ben to join his team of four other mathematics experts. This team has been taught by the Professor how to turn the odds of Blackjack in their favour using mathematics. This could be the key for Ben to get into Harvard.

Jim Sturgess and Kate Bosworth

Personally, I enjoyed this movie a lot, however the script did not have enough depth for me. Jim Sturgess gave an excellent performance, he and Kate Bosworth made the movie. Not only was Sturgess’ acting brilliant doing the shy nerd bit with no problem, the young Brit, also pulled off a concievable Boston accent. Although the script wasn’t bad as I said earlier, with a neat twist towards the end, it needed some more depth, it was slightly too glitzy and it needed to have had some more gritty moments to it, of which it had none. Sturgess is obviously an extremely talented actor and I would like to see him in a role where he is more pushed and in a much deeper movie.

Shutter Shades

24 06 2008

Shutter shades were first made available in 2007 by Shutter Shades Inc., Los Angeles. Instead of the more conventional style of shades these do not have lenses, instead there is a “shutter” attatched to the frame, it does not actually though shut by the way. Originally they were a custom design for the Hip-Hop and R&B artist, Kanye West, who made them famous in his music video fo the hit single “Stronger”. There are a variety of different colours ranging from white to glow-in-the-dark and this summer there will be a limited release of gold and silver coloured shades.

Earn Some BUX

22 06 2008

For those of you who wouldn’t mind a little bit of extra cash…. i’ve got a site for you. If you haven’t heard of them before this site is a PTC (Pay To Click) website. The way you make money is simple, you are payed to click on adverts and view them for a time of 30 seconds, once you’re 30 seconds is up a little green tick will appear and this will mean you’ve just earnt yourself 1 cent. Ok, so I know waht you’re thinking “1 CENT!”, but the real money isn’t earnt from you clicking on adverts over and over, it’s earnt through making referrals. For every person referred by you that clicks on an advert  not only do they make 1 cent but you make 1 cent too.

So let’s do some maths…… I click 10 adverts per day = 10 cents, 20 of my referrals click 10 adverts per day = $2 …. So my daily earnings would be, $2.10 and my monthly earnings $63. Not bad for 5 minutes every day.
